As I've often said, Republicans give business what it wants, Democrats give business what it needs.* The free market does a very good job of motivating people to do what is in their personal short term interest; what we need government for is not to reinforce that, but to shape it to do what is in our collective long-term interest.
*They do it imperfectly, of course, general rule not always true of every Republican and every Democrat, YMMV, etc.
