I crashed before I finished the thing I was trying to get done for work last night. Gonna try to turn it in on Sunday.
Performing in Greenbelt tonight with nearly half of The Homespun Ceilidh Band. It's a small stage, so we're putting up a quartet instead of all nine of us -- as I understand John's plan, the idea is to get various combinations up on small stages where the full band won't fit, in addition to the places we usually play, to get the band's name out there more and sell some CDs. So tonight it'll be John, Trix, Felicia, and myself at the New Deal Cafe at 8:00, performing as"Members of The Homespun Ceilidh Band". If I've got readers I haven't met, come on out to the gig. For that matter, any of my friends in the area who don't already have other plans, come on down as well! (I never got around to putting this gig on the band's web page, 'cause I've been distracted by a lot of other things, including trying to finish that work project in the heat.)
Last night the temperature dropped considerably, though I knew the house wouldn't cool much on its own. Too many of the windows on the back of the house are painted shut, so trying to make use of outside air when the weather cooperates doesn't work much, but one window in the office came partly unstuck a while back -- the top sash fell down at an angle, just enough to let bugs in but not enough to do any good. That was before I put plastc over the windows for Winter, so last night I checked it to see whether it had loosened any further, and it had -- I was finally able to get the top sash to slide down a bit! Progress! I stuck one of those twin fans on top and wedged it back up so the top of the fan met the windowframe, and left it running all night pointing out. (I'd already put aluminum foil over both panes to keep the sun out.) The office never did get down to the outdoor temperature -- not even close -- but it did drop five Kelvins, which is enough to feel very different. It's currently 305 in here, a lot nicer than the 309 it got to yesterday or the 312 of a couple of days ago. According to Weather Underground it's currently 302K outdoor and predicted to go a couple degrees higher. (*sigh* I can get it to report temperatures in Farenheit, Celsius, or both, but it won't display them in Kelvins. Hmph! I like the Kelvin scale, and if I ever need to do gas-law caculations, using Kelvins means I don't have to do any conversions!) I don't know whether I'll be better off with the fan there or without it ifwhen the weather gets Abysmally Hot again like the last few days (I guess it depends on how cool I can keep the other floors and whether I need to run AC for any other parts of the house), but it seems to be the right call for today anyhow.
Gonna go see Mom before my gig. She's headed for Cyprus to visit relatives soon. Wenesday I go see the mortgage banker about trying to buy this house. Sometime early in the week, the appraiser for the bank the buyer who put in his offer before mine is coming over to look at the house. And in today's mail I got a note from the jury comissioner saying I was excused from jury duty but would be called again sometime in the future. Right now I'm waiting for the last of my bookmarked webcomics to finish loading, then it's time to shower, put my gear together, put my kilt on, and head over to Bowie.
( If anyone's interested in my list of webcomics... )
