eftychia: Me in kilt and poofy shirt, facing away, playing acoustic guitar behind head (Default)

As of 17:55 today, I am no longer an AT&T Wireless customer. I just spent seventy five minutes on the phone, finally got the 20 June bill corrected, asked what they were going to do to compensate me for the seven and a quarter hours I've spent dealing with this problem, and asked whether they were going to reinstate my service while waiting for my payment of the corrected bill. I was offered 100 minutes of free airtime for the next three months, and was told that service would not be reinstated until after payment was received. I can understand their position on that second point, but it's not good enough now, after the crap I've been through. As for the 100 free minutes, I rarely exceed my included-in-plan airtime anyhow, and for the next couple of months I've got an extra 200 minutes per month already -- so 100 free minutes is effectively a zero for me.

I was told I would incur a $175 early termination fee because I'd signed up for a new plan as a side effect of my first attempt to get the June phone bill corrected. I told them, as politely as I could, to stuff it: the attempted fix didn't work, and I'm considering them non-performing. Now to find out whether there's a state regulatory agency to complain to, or do I just go to the FCC to bitch?

I'm not sure how long it'll take me to set up service with another carrier -- part of it will depend on how many of their web sites I can navigate without JavaScript. At the moment I am unreachable by phone. And frustrated as Hell.

Folks, I'll say this publically: I suggest avoiding AT&T Wireless Services, a carrier I'd been quite happy with up until June of this year, because they changed my calling plan without notifying me, were unresponsive to my attempts to get a billing error corrected, suspended my service during that billing dispute, and have now threatened me with enforcement of a contract that I have not been able to use due to their actions. I do not fear retribution for saying this about them, as I can document all of these. Opinion: That you should not sign a contract wth AT&T Wireless Services and that what they did to me borders on fraud. Fact: They did make changes to my calling plan without notifying me first; they started a new contract as part of my attempt to resolve that issue, failed to resolve the issue in a timely manner, and cut off my service while the matter was still being discussed; their doing so has resulted in my not getting what I signed up for, and they're threatening to invoke penalties for my cancelling it even though they've not provided the service; and they're not willing to compensate me in a way that I'll notice, for SEVEN HOURS of my time trying to fix THEIR error that should have been resolved with a twenty minute phone call.
