I just finished reading "Goddesses" by Linda Nagata. Wow.
Not the thing to read when trying to get to sleep -- too many thoughts
sparked by it, too many layers, right up there on Shariann Lewitt's
level. Yeah, you expect Good Stuff in a collection of Nebula
winners, but still, this stands out. Cool that she got me to identify
with a few different characters at the same time, too.
Must remember to thank again the bandmate who dropped a copy of
Nebula Awards Showcase 2002 in my lap.
(Yes, I've got a performance seven hours from now and an hour
from home, but my body has its own inconvenient notions about when
it'll sleep, which is why I was up reading. By the way, can someone
who has seen the movie Dune tell me which syllable gets the stress in
"wahad"? My instinct has always (well, since the first time I read Dune) been to stress the first syllable,
but it's not a phrase I hear other people say aloud.)
