As of about two weeks ago, my WinNT machine has a new way to annoy me. While I'm moving the mouse (nowhere near the task bar, mind you), it'll suddenly tile all my windows, pop open an "Open Microsoft Office" dialog, and open some configuration dialog. (Fortunately I was recently handed the clue I needed to undo most of that in one operation, though "Undo Tile Windows" will often leave one window still at the wrong size for some reason.)

Today was a new one -- it shrank my browser window down to just the title bar and moved it to the bottom of the screen. I have no clue why it's doing this. It's frustrating.

I'm used to hearing the police helicopter go past (or circle within earshot, or occasionally circle near enough to be loud), and once in a while a news or hospital chopper. Less often I'll hear a prop-powered plane go by, usually much closer to the horizon than to the zenith, unless they're flying advertising banners over the stadium, in which case they split the difference. But today (uh, about an hour ago?) I heard two jets go by, low enough to be way louder than I'm used to hearing jets, within the space of a half-hour. (Okay, it might have been one jet twice.) Unsurprisingly, given the speed of such craft, I didn't get to an upstairs window in time to see what kind of plane it was. (Some part of my brain is jumping up and down waving and yelling, "I know! I know! They were fighters!" but that's not really based on much more than guesswork.) BWI is far enough from downtown that most of the jets I see are too high up to be audible at all from my house. I'm wondering what this was about.
