*grrr* Phone line went dead. Good news is that it's a my-side-of-the-grey-box problem, so I don't have to wait for Verizon to show up and fix it. Bad news is that I have to fix it myself. Found one phone jack that still works (the one connected to a wire that hangs out a second-floor window, loose -- none of the ones connected to the house wiring are working), and was able to run a cord from there to the machine that has the modem in it, so I'm back online, but I just killed an hour troubleshooting and tromping through the back yard in the drizzle (and lots of wet weeds) and now I think I'll just go to bed. I just have to avoid tripping over the wire that runs across the hallway and living room until I figure out what went wrong with all the other phone jacks.
The grumbly aspects are that this interfered with paying work that I'm behind on (and other stuff), and that I'm touchy about feeling disconnected from the 'net. The "it's just an annoyance, not a Big Problem" aspects are that troubleshooting and repairing (or outright replacing if it comes to that) phone wiring isn't brain surgery, and that I've got a temporary solution until I feel awake enough to go fix it properly. I'm extra-grumpy about it 'cause I'm sleepy.
