I've seen a few people do this; I don't recall who I saw do it first, or which time I decided to try it myself.

Not, I think, a terribly impressive list of states, all told. Especially after subtracting the states I've merely driven through at high speed. But it does look more impressive this way than if I were to only colour in, say, the individual counties I've visited -- some of the states I've been to, I've only seen narrow slices of.

"Technical innovations regularly take decades to spread. Volkswagen started building cars with unibodies in the 1930s. By the 1980s, practically all new cars were designed that way. Was it simply that the vast majority of car designers were boneheads for 40 years? Yep, though I think "conservative" is the preferred euphemism." -- Paul Graham, Re: Revenge of the Nerds

Quick note before I dash off to an event that the band is casually playing at.

I've got a huge memory leak. Invoking a Java applet in iCab under MacOS 9.1 results in more than half my RAM going *poof* and the system starting a gradual slide to instability.

I've spent most of the past few days feeling like crap and not getting out of the house to run various errands or to shop, so the food that [livejournal.com profile] dmk and her mother brought me when they were visiting is even more appreciated than it would've been otherwise. (Uh ... did I get around to thanking you two for that? I meant to, but I was pretty out of it.)

I have not yet found a really good location for a bedside computer; I've just found a few that each have different disadvantages. I really need to try to build a swing-arm or rolling over-bed stand or something so that I can a) put it in a more ergonomic spot, and b) move it when I need to move myself.
