Bzzzzz Bzzzzz Bzzzzz Bzzzz ROAR And just like that the tree is gone. The great orange tree-eating monster has arrived, snacked (the tree which looked so large to me hardly constitutes a meal for the GOTEM), and departed. All that lingers are some leaves, the yellow police tape, and the scent of fresh-killed tree. And the scent is being blown up the street by the gusts which resumed while the GOTEM ate. Goodbye, tree.

At least the monster was friendly -- telling me it had been culling the tree-herd, scouring the city for the fallen, since tea-time -- before it ambled up Lombard, its belly not-quite-full (but clearly getting there) of so many trees and tree-limbs that it had lost count of how many it has eaten tonight.

Perhaps it would like an after-dinner mint, but I do not know where to find a candy that large. Perhaps a scented pillow? (A friend's pillows were ruined tonight when a wounded tree stumbled through her house in its death-throes, but she lives a fair distance from here, so her pillows were not at hand to toss to the great orange tree-eating monster.
