I made it to the tech rehearsal. Late, but other people
were still carrying things in. We determined that the nice
big mixer with Enough Channels was, in addition to being
physically large enough to be a PITA to haul, a bit too flaky
to want to trust for a performance. (My impression is that
a few problems were from age and lots of use, such as the
worn output jack, and others were from sitting idle too long
since the last time it had seen heavy use, such as the pots
that did not want to turn at all at first.) Some angst ensued
over how to make things work with smaller mixers, but we did
manage to come up with equipment and channel assignments for
Thrir
Venstri Foetr's next amplified gig, such that we'll all
be on one mixer, with a smaller mixer ganged to it in case
other acts at that event need to hook into our sound system.
I was definitely lacking a bit in mobility, strength, and
stamina. But after a stop at home, I did make it to Bowie to
see my mother and my brother. And I dropped in on the Sheepie
and tried to fix her computer (after Windows had confused me
long enough, tried to get a PPP connection to ask for help.
It would establish the connection, but DNS would not work --
so it couldn't find any other machines. Fortunately I can
dial into the local-to-there number for my ISP with a dumb
terminal if I have to, so I used the terminal window that can
be made to appear in the net-connection tool under Windows
after the modem connects, to post to a mailing list to ask for
clues. I got a big clue, but wasn't able to download the fix
because of the DNS problem. So the machine may later wind up
at my house, where I'll drop it on my LAN and manually
configure all the TCP/IP setings to force it to be able to
see the net long enough to download a driver. Unless
somebody else who will be in town for a couple of days has
time to go over there and fix it first.)
Stopping at a Seven-Eleven store to buy more airtime for
my phone, the cashiers and I managed to make each other laugh
talking about cats and birds as pets. Then I told my story
about the polydactyl kitten I caught erasing the secret cat
plans for world domination. Laughing woke me up a bit. Then
home, finish unloading the car, scoop the litter box, take out
trash and recycling, get lured into chasing Perrine around the
house in slow motion (I didn't go faster than a walk -- not
the way I was feeling ... am feeling -- but she obligingly
ran every time I came near, then waited for me to catch up),
got glared at for sitting down at the computer, got about
halfway (maybe only thirdway) caught up on the weekend's
email ... I still have not read my LJ friends page since
very early Saturday.
I'm going to try very hard to get certain urgent errands
done today, but it's quite likely I'll wind up spending most
of it in bed. :-( My body is quite unhappy with me.
