I did make it to rehearsal on Tuesday. I even made it
to Arlington to see anniemal afterward, which
is where I've spent the last few days. But the recurring
fatigue problem is still with me; I didn't make it back to
Baltimore when I'd planned to because I didn't feel well
enough to drive, and I didn't make it out to farther reaches
of VA to pick up donated hardware for the same reason, and
that's why I continue to be relatively quiet on LJ and in
email and am even farther behind on reading my friends page
than I already was and didn't get around to mentioning this
weekend's gig until just now ...
Now I'm back in Baltimore, getting ready for a Three Left Feet / Thrir Venstri Foetr gig at the Mother Earth's Harvest Faire, and a bandmate will be able to take over if I don't feel safe to drive on the way up or back (it's in PA).
This was the first time I'd made it to VA since Pennsic,
so Perrine had been stuck down there all this time and had
managed to insert herself pretty solidly into the household
there. She ran away from me when I first showed up, and I
wasn't sure whether that meant she was mad at me or something
else. I think she was just indicating displeasure at my
absence, because she later became her friendly self (after
I threw the end of a piece of rope for her to chase and play
tug-o-war with a few times). Until it was time to put her
in the carrier to come home. anniemal handled
that but I heard the fuss. She really
doesn't like the carrier. Probably because she doesn't like
the car. I can understand why she doesn't like the car,
given what happens when she rides in it. This time I got
very little warning time between the first "I'm uncomfortable" meow
and the presentation of data regarding the volume of her
stomach. (Her stomach holds rather more than I would have
guessed.) I'd ducked off onto side streets because the
Beltway was wedged, and the interval between warning and
smelliness was about two blocks. *sigh* When I heard that
particular meow, I knew I had to look for a safe place to
pull over to let her stomach settle, but there was no such
place within reach. Bleah. I'm glad the cat carrier has
a lip, so everything stayed contained until I could stop
and grab paper towels.
With a few rest stops along the way, we did get home, and she started methodically sniffing the house -- first a cursory sniff of most of the ground floor and prolonged staring at the main mouse-activity corners, then a thorough checking of the basement, and then the upstairs (I'm not sure whether she's hit the third floor yet). Now she's trying to pretend to ignore me, but she keeps showing up in whatever room I move to. I feel bad about her not having her playmates (and even worse about the fact that I'm going to spend all day in PA just after bringing her home) but I'm glad to have her back with me, and I'm looking forward to having rather less brazen mice now that she's home. I just hope she winds up being happier to be home and I'm not just being selfish wanting her here. I'm looking forward to having her next to me when I go to bed. I missed her.
The autumn allergy season arrived sometime while I wasn't paying attention (no, no, definitely before the equinox, and I was paying attention when that arrived, so there); it may be time to start taking an antihistamine twice as often for a while. I'm not sure whether this has anything to do with how poorly I've been feeling lately; if I start feeling better at the same time as I start doubling the antihistamine, that'll be a clue.
More later. I do plan to start posting more often again. Real Soon Now.
