  1. Rub calf, trying to tease out a knot in a muscle.
  2. Rest for a minute when squeezing and pressing that hard makes fingers and arms hurt.
  3. Resume rubbing.
  4. Notice exhaustion, start to nod off.
  5. As soon as brain reaches sstate that could be thought of as the edge of sleep, be jolted completely awake again by fresh leg pain.
  6. Repeat every five goodamn minutes since two o'fucking clock in the morning. For variety, occasionally substitute other leg.

I daresay the phrase "excruciatingly tired" applies right now. I know I haven't spent more than one or two seconds asleep at a time because there's a radio on at low volume in the room, and I haven't missed a complete sentence during any of the "start to fall asleep and be yanked awake by pain" steps.

And now my arms hurt rather a lot. :-(

"As with any scientific endeavor, whether it's the splitting of the atom or a 25-cent tracking device, it's up to us to decide whether to use it for good or ill. Unfortunately, our track record on that score is not very encouraging." -- Ephrain Schwartz, "Reality Check" column, Infoworld, vol 27 #13, 2005-03-28, p.18. (The column is mostly positive about the potential good of RFID.)
