"But if you can only respect people who hold the beliefs that you do - or, more traditionally, respect people who only differ with you on things that don't really matter - then you don't respect anyone. You agree with people, but that's a different thing.
"Respect comes from looking at someone with all their flaws and saying, 'Even though he may have been my enemy in many ways, the man was not evil. He tried to do what he thought was right, even if we differed in the approach.'"
