There is an axiom that underlies reliability.

"Be accomodating in what you accept, be exact in what you dispatch"

DRM systems inherently violate that axiom.

It's hard enough to make complex systems reliable when both sides of an interface are doing their best to make the system work.

DRM systems change this dynamic dramatically. They are required to default to not working, else any unexpected input will void the DRM.

They are thus inherently unreliable.
