eftychia: Me in kilt and poofy shirt, facing away, playing acoustic guitar behind head (Default)

From the Quotation of the day mailing list, 2005-06-02:

I taught my good dog, Maggie
To lay down when I commanded
I also taught her "Set"
Whenever I demanded.
I'll teach her next to speak, I said
She struggled to comply
And when she learned to speak, she said:
"You twit. It's 'Sit' and 'Lie.'"

-- Wally McRae, a cowboy poet from Montana.

[long-time readers of qotd will know that the confusion between lie and lay has always been a concern of ours. -eds.]

Not enough sleep ...

  • Sometime between 06:00 and 07:00 I think: the unmistakeable sound of a car crash. Vehicles at funny angles in intersection, drivers ambulatory. I've mentioned before that the Baltimore fire department responds much more quickly than the police, and I guess the 911 operators know that too, because they sent a fire truck and a fire department SUV instead of a police cruiser. (This despite my intersection being a mere few blocks from a police Rapid Response Special Enforecement Extra Buzzwords And Media Coverage zone.)
  • After the flashing lights had driven off, Perrine jumped down from her perch where she'd been watching the window, and curled up with her head and one paw on my ankle. Absofuckinglutely adorable -- until a dream or something made her flex her claws ...
  • ... And then about an hour when she slid off the edge of the bed and my ankle in her sleep, and woke up trying to catch herself -- YEOUCH! (Amazed that I only got punctures, not long gouges, from that.)

Nope, not enough sleep. A little progress on the program I'm writing on my PDA though.
