"Irony" ... that'd be when the act of starting a backup on a computer long overdue for being backed up, causes the machine to crash, right?

*sigh*

(Running again, backup in progress, but it took four reboots to get it to come all the way up to allowing logins.)

From the Quotation of the day mailing list, 2005-06-14:

"Terrorism is Grand Theater."

...

"Here, media is the total message: I now have an understanding of McLuhan you wouldn't believe. Kill twenty people here? In front of that lens it's killing twenty thousand." -- US Army Lieutenant Colonel George Krivo, who was serving in Iraq, on how the press can make a story. (From an October 2003 interview with journalist Mark Danner.)

I just woke abruptly (after far too little time asleep) because in my dream about a job interview, my mentioning to the interviewer that I was a season behind on Grey's Anatomy and would appreciate not hearing spoilers was incongruous enough to kick my brain out of dream mode and right out of sleep entirely ... even though that was far from being the most incongruous or most bizarre element of the dream. WTF? (Or maybe it was the concentration of matching character names to show while parsing the comment my statement was a response to, that threw me out of dream-state? The start of her sentence had made me think she was going to talk about Desperate Housewives (which I'm also a season behind on), you see, and when the characters she mentioned didn't line up I had to think to match the names to Grey's ... maybe "having to think too much" was what woke me instead of incongruity? Either way, it wasn't enough sleep, doggone it.)
