Okay, I got a ride to Darkover in a car with almost enough room for just what I needed for the HCB concert -- that is, another passenger and I rode hugging guitar cases, with the guitar necks between our knees.
We played our concert. Despite mis-timing my pain meds, and starting out too agressively for my right wrist to handle, it went pretty well. I'm back home again, having left my guitars up there so as to have more room to carry instruments I want to play for the Regency Ball. Now I just need to sort out how to get everything home again (and whether I'm spending Saturday night at the convention). So at this point I'm still not sure whether I'm taking the double bass (there'll be a bass viola da gamba and a cello present, so there will be bass whether I bring the biiig fiddle or not, but bringing it means an extra octave on the bottom). Given how much tonight hurt, I think I want to stay off guitar as much as possible during the ball to give my wrist a better chance of making it through the HCB concert that follows immediately afterward (fortunately in the room next door to the ball, so it's not going to be a long walk) -- not that I can't hurt myself badly enough on the double bass as well (though I'm more likely to hurt my hand than my wrist on double bass). If I'm awake long enough, I'll look over the music again to see how many of the tunes I can play on recorder if I don't bring the bass. I think I can also play snare drum without hurting myself, if I'm careful. I'll have to see how that blends with the other drums.
So basically, my transportation solution for the weekend is rather Baroque ... and not yet complete. Man, do I need a car.
