Perrine usually sleeps perched on my hip while I'm on my side, or draped across my shins or ankles, or curled up next to me with her back pressed firmly against my legs. When the weather's cool enough anyhow -- in summer she's more likely to sleep next to my legs but not touching. I don't notice the heat as much when she's on my legs or hip ...
But tonight, while I'm on my back, she chose to fall asleep curled on my gut. And the area from navel to 'nads, the currently cat-covered region, despite three blankets and a sheet between us, is quite significantly warmer than the rest of me.
I don't know whether she's trying to borrow my body heat to keep herself warm, trying to share hers to take care of me, or both (since those are obviously compatible goals) -- or whether she's just expressing her need to know I'm not getting up and leaving, and is glad that it's not too warm for her to do so in this way. Regardless, it pushes the button for the "aww, isn't she sweet" emotional response in my brain. What a fine cat she is.
When I take a deeper breath, such as when I yawn, the larger motion wakes her up and she looks around -- one of those details that isn't a problem when she sleeps on my hip, or even on my waist when I'm on my side. Now as long as I don't need to roll over ...
Ah, she's gotten up and left the room, so I can roll over on my side now and I can type a bit faster that way. (She actually left in the third paragraph but I wanted to finish typing what I had already composed in my head.) Back again to perch on the outside of my thigh; I'm guessing that she left to get a drink of water, since she usually takes longer than that a her food bowl or in the litter box. Let's see if I can make one more adjustment into a comfortable sleeping position without disturbing her enough to make her jump off.
