"Many of the papers presented there depended in an essential way upon others which had appeared originally in as many as three or four different languages. Surely science is one of the universal human activities." -- James Alfred Van Allen (b. 1914-09-07, d. 2006-08-09), after whom the Van Allen radiation belts are named

Yesterday's attempt to get my wrist x-rayed was thwarted by an accident that backed up traffic enough to prevent my ride from getting to Baltimore in time (the imaging center closes at 16:30, half an hour earlier than I'd thought). The plan is to try again today.

I have a ride lined up for tomorrow's waytooearly appointment with the orthopedist.

What I do not have is a ride to the Pirate Feast on Saturday (if, after seeing the orthopedist, I'm still playing that gig). So if you're headed to Adelphi from Baltimore on Saturday, and have room for a couple guitars, an amplifier, and a small mixer, please give me a holler.

In the meantime, I'll be dealing with the umpteenth re-install of Cygwin (*sigh*) -- a nifty set of tools when it works, but apparently a bit brittle. (Now it's somehow lost CYGREADLINE6.DLL and the X11 stuff. Which is odd, as the whole thing was working last night, before I tried to download the source code for wdiff and the right compression/decompression tools to open it.)

Dear Perrine,

Please forgive me for laughing so hard, but I can't help it. The way your ears twitch forward each time I tug on a string that you're holding the other end of is Just Too Cute! The fiercely intent look on your face at the same time just magnifies the effect. So really, it's not my fault.
