"I do like the phrase 'think outside the box' though. It says a lot about our culture that we have a cliche about how important it is that we don't think in cliches." -- Thers on Firedoglake 2008-05-10 (with thanks to [info] doubleplus for pointing it out via email)

I'm getting way too good at recognizing the various sounds an automobile collision can make. This time it was just a WHUMP!, with no trace of crRUMp, k'rrash, or TiNkLe, not even a proper BANG -- and no screech before it -- but I still knew what it was before I went to the window. (Can't see any damage from here, and no injuries, but folks are exchanging info -- and blocking traffic -- in case inspection turns up something later, I guess, which is prudent with modern bumper systems. Contrast to last night's hit-and-run with one driver zooming off in hot pursuit of the other -- they even made another loop past my block, tires squealing, before roaring up Fulton Ave.)

Also: feeling ooky + headachy, so most likely missing rehearsal yet again unless herbal remedy is enough. (Want my proper meds, but am still in beaurocratic limbo, confusingly.) Which means I'm probably not playing at MDFF this coming weekend, since I've missed every rehearsal for this group for the past couple months. :-( That sucks multiple ways (starting with feeling like I'm letting the group down, and including not getting to do something I enjoy). Probability of my getting there to night is nonzero, but unfortunately small. I even stayed home over the weekend to conserve spoons for today (but effectively not-sleeping ate the spoons I'd saved -- I keep waking up after only two hours asleep, then feeling zombie-ish -- unsurprisingly -- for the rest of the day ... getting really, really tired of this pattern).
