"It's easy enough to tell a child to ignore it (over and
over and fucking over again), but they can't. They're
right at the point where they're starting to move from the family
socialization unit to a society socialization unit, and they're
in the process of learning how to integrate into society. They
*need* to pay attention to everything around them; how many fen
are not good at social issues because they were rejected around
that point, and so they missed basic things on integrating with
societal units around them? If a child is developing properly,
they need, at that age, to be incredibly sensitive to the people
around them, both the good and the bad." --
