A couple days ago I realized I had to wait until the entrance fee went down in order to be sure of having gas money to get home from Pennsic, and decided to wait. Then I found fifteen bucks I'd misplaced ... (and later was handed another fifteen I'd been forgetful about collecting). But the (recent) plan was to head out yesterday morning or last night.. (I haven't done so.)
Now I'm at the "Where the %^@# are the thick socks I need to wear with my sabots, which I haven't seen since post-War laundry last year?" and "Where's my box of flashlight batteries?" stage, and unfortunately dealing with a body that's in "run around for five minutes, lie down for forty" mode. :-( Some stuff is in the van already -- loading it piecemeal but saving the instruments and cameras for one big push at the end, and hoping nothing already loaded gets stolen while I'm finishing up. Crashed last night mid-packing and was a real wreck this morning, so didn't get started again until afternoon. Current plan (knock wood) is to head out around midnight so as to set up before the day gets either hot or wet tomorrow, or bright and early tomorrow morning if I'm not up to it tonight. Stay tuned to see how the latest version of the plan plays out. Next door neighbour will feed and water the cat.
Doing a bit of weeding out on the gear, thinking, "Do I need _______ if I'm only going to be there a week? With what activities I'll probably manage to fit in, will I get around to wanting _______ badly enough to regret leaving it home?" Undecided yet about the double bass, but that may wind up being decided by vehicle-and-cargo geometry anyhow. Bringing fewer cameras, but still rounding up lenses from various corners of the house (hadn't realized they'd gotten so dispersed). Annoyed that two sets of NiMH batteries for the DSLR no longer hold enough charge to be useful, but may be okay, what with only being there half as long as usual. Leaving most of the sheet music behind; will look over others' shoulders, or play from memory, index cards, or laptop screen. Will decide at very last minute which drums to bring.
Heard it was muddy. Socks to make the sabots comfortable could wind up being important.
