"We do not pay the police to act like thugs for the benefit of corporations. We pay them to protect the people and maintain order, not actively cause disorder. If we the people decide to congregate in large numbers in public parks and decry injustice then the role of the officer is to direct traffic." -- Mike Stanfill, 2011-11-16 (quoted text appears in essay below the comic)

A couple of Homespun Ceilidh Band announcements:

First, a few of us will be playing some acoustic sets tomorrow in Gaithersburg, MD, at the City Hall Concert Pavilion for a group of scientists, from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM. I'm a little fuzzy on the details of the event -- whether the scientists in question will just be in the area, or whether this is some sort of closed event for them -- but anyhow, some of us will be there, so if you're walking nearby, listen for us.

Second, it's time for our annual Spring concert in Greenbelt, on Saturday (7 April), for which I'm going to be lazy and copy/paste from Felicia's email, and link to a PDF of John's flier. (Let me know if you want to be added to Felicia's mailing list! And feel free to print out copies of the flier to share with other folks who might be interested.)

The ambiance at GAC concerts is friendly and welcoming, a place to bring the whole family. Jumping up to dance is encouraged for audience of all ages. We are, after all, a DANCE BAND!

GETTING TO GAC: Centerway flanks a small shopping center that contains several small buildings. A Co-Op grocery store and a community theater share one of the buildings. The community theater/Arts Center is in the basement of that building, under the Co-Op.

The entrance to the theater/Arts Center is on one side of the building, at the bottom of a set of steps leading down from Eleanor Roosevelt Plaza (with the 30's Mother & Child sculpture).

Take your best way to Rte. 193 (GreenBelt Road) where it crosses the Baltimore-Washington Parkway. From Rte.193, turn onto Southway, which begins at the Rte.193/B-W Parkway crossing.

Follow Southway for several blocks until it ends at the shopping center (on Centerway).

Proceed straight across Centerway into the shopping center. Go right and downhill, bearing rightward to the right-rear corner of the shopping center at the bottom of the hill, behind the Co-Op. Park for free in the parking lot.

As for sharing the word, there's a Facebook event page you can share with your friends if you use Facebook, and a couple of relevant tweets you can retweet if you use Twitter. Or, of course, you can write about how much you're looking forward to this in your own words ... ;-)
