"If we are going to survive as a human race, we're going to do it through civil society actively working for human rights, not promoting closed policies that mimic Nazi Germany or Communist Russia. Or spread enemy imaging and hate speech in record sound bytes just as Rwandan Radio did in the weeks and days leading up to their Genocide. Of course our government should protect borders and communities from INDIVIDUALS who are polarizing with the intent to destroy other human beings. But to target ALL people of a religion, race, ethnicity, or gender marks the beginning of genocide.

"You may think that you and I are just having a difference of opinion here, and you are entitled to your 'opinion' and entitled to spread it however you see fit. But I can think of about 100 million souls in the last eighty years who lost their lives at the hands of their own governments supported by 'opinions' such as yours. Your opinions breed death and destruction."

It's a long Facebook post but a short essay by any other standard, and what I've quoted isn't the most powerful part. Please go read the whole thing -- and that goes double if you think, "but this time it's different," or, "yeah but we do have reason to be scared of these folks."
