"It's a lovely carol, but Away in the Manger's claim that 'the Little Lord Jesus, no crying he makes' is romantic nonsense. Jesus was fully human; fully a baby, and as any parent of small children will tell you, that means he will have regularly screamed down the neighbourhood, especially when he had wind. Although I appreciate that the line 'The little Lord Jesus, a bit windy he is', probably wouldn't have been such a roaring success." -- Martin Saunders, 2014-12-24
To most of my fellow Christians[1], a blessed celebration of the birth of our Savior! To all who celebrate it as a secular holiday as well as my co-religionists, a happy first day of Christmas[2]! Also, happy Newtonmas!
[1] A few churches celebrate on 6 January, 7 January, or 19 January (in the Gregorian calendar).
[2] As usual, I've seen a few signs that some folks get confused as to whether Christmas begins or ends on the 25th, possibly because of the secular buildup to Christmas and declaration of "the Christmas season" before Advent even starts, and acting as though it's all over on the day it technically finally begins. Personally, this frustrates me more because I always seem to be a bit behind everyone else, and often don't start to feel ready for Christmas or in a "Christmas mood" until about the third day (when everyone around me is acting like Christmas is over and done with) than because "people are doing it wrong". *sigh*
