"There's a cliche in the world of fan fiction about outsiders like me expounding on slash, trying to answer the question 'why do people write this' and 'why do people read it', as if any explanation was required.

"No one gets on a conference stage to explain why heterosexual men enjoy watching attractive women make out with each other. At least, not at the conferences I attend. But for some reason people seem to think slash requires justification and footnotes. This idea that slash needs explaining is a form of judgement."
