In my work, I talk to a LOT of the public about trans healthcare. Being a 'waste of money' is a massive concern of many. Because of this.
Trans healthcare has some of the best outcomes regarding mental health etc of any care, but it's demonised and deliberately misrepresented
Trans men getting pregnant have specific healthcare requirements, sure. This costs extra. As do... countless women who get pregnant also.
Here's the thing. This isn't about money. It's about using 'the taxpayer's pound' as an emotional lever to push moral pressure via the media
When the Mail talk about trans young people getting hormonal intervention, they back up their scaremongering with the costs of the drugs.
£5000 SURGERY is a cheap surgery, but it sounds expensive. And that's used to help push moral messages. Of transphobia, in these cases.
£300 PER MONTH PUBERTY PAUSERS are demonised for trans kids, yet the many times greater number of cis kids that get them are Acceptable

[She's discussing UK media and arguments about the NHS, but I hear similar arguments in the US about what Medicaid should pay for, what a hypothetical single-payer system would pay for, whether it's somehow imposing unduly on them to have trans care included in the insurance their employer provides, etc.]
