"here's to the people who's trauma did not give them thick skin. the ones who became more sensitive and insecure, who cry more easily, who get overwhelmed at small things. i'm so tired of the narrative that trauma makes you tough and untouchable. we're survivors, not superheroes." -- jules rylan ([twitter.com profile] radiantbutch), 2021-01-04

[Now that we've finished new-calendar Christmas ... Merry Christmas to all the old-calendar Orthodox folks! Most Orthodox churches are "new calendar", meaning that although they use the Julian calendar to calculate the dates of Easter and holidays timed relative to it, they use the Gregorian calendar for most other holidays, inluding Christmas. A few are "old calendar" churches, using the Julian calendar for other holidays as well, including Christmas. So while most Orthodox Christians celebrated Christmas at the same time as Western churches, Copts and some Orthodox are celebrating it starting today. "We've had one, yes," said Pippin, "But what about second Christmas?"]
