eftychia: Me in kilt and poofy shirt, facing away, playing acoustic guitar behind head (Default)

I've got some catching up to do, to let folks know how a few things mentioned earlier worked out.

When I whined about being sick on the 16th, a beautiful recorderist rang my doorbell with an armfull of cough drops, cough syrup, Ramen noodles, saltines, and an adorable stuffed ghost sitting in a plush pumpkin. I owe her big time. She's a real lifesaver (and that's literally true, not just grateful hyperbole -- the other thing she did that day was a medical delivery (blood or an organ or something) to a hospital). I'm a little embarassed to be so late in publically thanking her. (As soon as I was well enough to sit and write something, that whole thing with my brother happened). Thanks, Melanie.

I did eventually start feeling a little better, actually getting dressed and into the car late on the 18th. I wasn't feeling my best when I went to sit with my brother in the ER, but at least I was well enough to be up and about. Last I heard (day before yesterday, from my mother), he was still in some pain and was frustrated because of delays in getting an appointment with a surgeon.

The antibiotic ointment made a big difference to my conjunctivities very quickly -- after the first day of it, the ointment became more annoying than the infection. The doctor said to use it for five days, and I did so. Now my eyes are itchy but not red. I think it's leftover irritation from the ointment ... I'm dropping Visine in once in a while and waiting to see whether the irritation clears up completely or winds up being a return of the infection.

And the precarious housing situation ... I got email at the start of the week saying that two serious offers on the house had been received so I had to move quickly. That meant there was no more time for Plan A (getting an FHA 203K mortgage) so we had to throw Plan B (Mom borrowing all the money another way) into effect. Current status of that is: we're pretty sure the bank is going to accept our offer, but we don't know how long it'll take the bank to get around to doing the obvious.

In other news, I've been offered groceries from a friend who knows how difficult my current financial situation is. That'll either be the difference between eating and not eating, or the difference between paying all but two of my bills this month and paying very few of them. I am incredibly lucky to have the friends I've got. Someday I hope I'll be well enough off to do the same for others.

Later maybe I'll get around to posting some of the entertaining URLs that have come across my screen in the past week. After a handful of more urgent things I have to get done this weekend.

I still haven't decided what to dress up as for Hallowe'en. There's a party tonight that I probably won't make it to (I'm still waiting for folks I have to meet with this evening, and I'm already Very Tired, but I'm tempted to try anyhow), and I have to check my Suspects mailbox to see what other parties are in convenient driving range tomorow.

I was really tempted to dress up as a horse using the instructions for making hooves on Destrier's site dedicated to human-equine transformations, mainly to try to get a reaction out of [livejournal.com profile] xpioti, but I don't have time and don't know what the odds are of bumping into her anytime during the Hallowe'en season. As a last resort, I can fall back on the costume I've worn for the past couple years (since I've still got all the components handy), but how many times are you allowed to recycle the same costume idea? At least I've worn it in front of different groups of people each time so far... (It'd be easy to vary the look a bit within the same concept, but that's still the same costume idea.)
