Watching a VCR with the cover removed as it loads a tape is pretty cool.
I was down to one working VCR (the one that's still shiny and new-looking, a gift a few months ago), and there are three things I want to tape tonight. (Well, two if I call in sick, skip rehearsal, and stay home tonight, but I'm still hoping that I'll feel enough better after a shower to make it to rehearsal ... we'll see.) One of the broken ones seems to record but doesn't rewind and I have not gotten it to respond to its remote; without being able to set the clock or program it, I figure I'll start it recording on the right channel when I leave the house and let it run until I get home or it runs out of tape. Another had a visibly loose part inside -- one of the drive spindles that engages the bottom of the cassette; I took that apart, and I think I've fixed it. (It loaded and ejected a tape a few times and did advance and rewind the tape. I don't have time for a full test.)
So with any luck, I'll get my shows tonight. I hope.
And I only had one part left over.
But it's a very small part, so I'm not worried.
