"I had become a dog. I had joined their little impromptu
pack. So long as I respected the leadership of the female husky,
I was welcome. So long as I obeyed the rules, I could stay and
be one of them. They must have thought I was a dog. I submitted
to the samoyed, but I took no guff from the great dane. I
established myself in the order below the older dogs but above
the yearling. It didn't take much--I moved when the samoyed
nudged me, but I stayed put when the dane tried. That's all it
took. When a new guest arrived, I barked after the husky gave
the signal, but left off once the all-clear sounded. I curled up
with them, and the husky nudged me into a position she thought
would keep me safe. She put me between the other dogs. She nudged
and growled and pushed me until I went where she wanted, then she
left off. She stayed in front, putting her body between me and
potential danger. She was protecting me. I was part of the pack."

Thanks for making me a QotD yet again. I know you're having some car trouble--I hope things get better for you soon. For some reason, my PayPal account wouldn't let me add my bank information. Their customer support is working on it. I would never have found out about the problem if I hadn't tried to send you some cash, so...thanks! In a roundabout way, you helped me out. As soon as the PayPal thing resolves, I'll toss some "impound fund" money your way.
Life would be simpler if we acted like dogs, eh? Never saw a dog impound a collar.
