30 gallon, gas (though it's a bit small so I'm hoping an upgrade to 40 gallons won't be much more, if this one can't be repaired). Leaking pretty impressively; not counting on repair being practical (but willing to be surprised). Each time I let water into it to try to eke out ooooone more shower, it leaks out faster than the time before.

Any help gratefully accepted. You actually have time for this sort of project?

Hmmm, I don't consider myself qualified for gasfitting, but I could take a look at it.
Generally, when a tank-style water heater leaks, it's either a fitting or the tank. The
gas ones have fewer fittings, so it's even more likely the tank, which isn't really fixable.
You could replace it with a tankless one, it would cost more than a tank-type
unit, but give you higher efficiency and effectively unlimited capacity. I could hook
up everything but the gas and then the plumber (or gasman) wouldn't charge you so
much.

As for time, that's always up in the air. I'm slated to spend a lot of my time at a
customer site in Crystal City in the upcoming weeks, which should make hash of
my schedule in general.
