"Bush doesn't lie. He 'parses'. He finds a way to phrase something so that it isn't technically a lie. It is better than the double-speak in Orewell's '1984'. It is the new tyranny." -- [livejournal.com profile] yesthattom, 2006-04-21

"He finds a way to phrase something so that..."
I think maybe yesthattom (nonotthistom) may have been giving credit where none was due, don't you? ;)

Other than that though, yes. A bit like the thing with the Extraordinary Rendition (TM) scandal, where Ms Rice appeared on TV firmly declaring "The US does not torture its prisoners" or similar, in response to the allegations that they were shipping them out for foreigners to torture them.

Oh, he absolutely lies plenty. That man can't phrase his way out of a wet paper bag, and he ain't smart enough to set up his own frames. You can tell he's lying (kind of like my old landlord) -- his lips are moving.

Please....Clinton never got cut any "parsing" slack.
Lying is lying and the Repubs are incredibly skilled at spinning.
