Ugh. Power's gone out. (Not just my house.) Right in the middle of composing email. Wonder how long it'll be this time.

So how are you writing?

best,

I posted that via SMS from my cell phone. (That's also how I posted the entry a few weeks ago saying I'd blown out a tire on the way to a performance.)

Everything's up and running again now. (It took me a while to get all the routing right, after the long wait to fsck the file server.)

The best $40 or $50 you will spend is to get an ups from Staples, Best Buy, etc. the next time they run a sale. Any size, (I run my desktop box using a 350VA APC unit) but be sure that it has a port for talking to the computer. Then load & start the correct daemon. You're not after really long run times (unless you get a real deal on a larger box) but you want the server to not bounce on every 30 second sub-station breaker pop. You you are really after is letting the box shutdown cleanly. Even with journalling FS's and such, it takes a long time to clean up on a re-boot...

Janice (Why yes, I _did_ learn this the hard way...)

heroMachine image of BrentOur little UPS supports the cable modem, the WiFi router, and the ReplayTV (but not the TV itself). It always takes me aback when everything goes dark except the iBook. And then I think, "Oh, cool!"
