It has been argued that, in fact, the switch from alcohol to coffee is what *sparked* the Enlightenment; people were suddenly sober enough to realize the sorry state of affairs, and wired enough to want to do something about it.

I used to drink 5 pots (12-cup size) a day; did it for years. I still drink a ridiculous amount, but the bladder's getting old and lazy, lol...
