I sympathize. A melody, complete with enough detail to have it sound like a decent recording, leaped, full-blown, into my head in head in the mid-1980s. I've never heard any quite like it in RL and by now it's escaped. My (limited) musical ability has grown very slightly since then, but nowhere near what it would have taken to figure it out properly and then write it down. I've always been a bit saddened not to have been able to do something useful with it.
