It was worth closing down all my browser windows to install the latest Javascript plugin on the bedroom Linux machine (despite my continued vague distrust of Javascript, like Dr. McCoy's unease about the Transporter), just to watch this rant about Pachelbel's Canon in D (via [livejournal.com profile] cellio and [livejournal.com profile] siderea, who both got it from [livejournal.com profile] ian_gunn).

Fellow musicians and music lovers, you really want to hear this rant.

I have had the audio version of that on my Mac for years (Rob recorded it awhile back and Dr. Demento still plays it on occasion), but I hadn't known he made a video of it. I'm only a musician by courtesy, and never played in an orchestra, and I *still* laugh! Thanks for passing it along.

BTW, I met Rob a few years back when I was still living in NYC and he came to play a club in SoHo not far from my then-apartment. Real nice guy and fun as hell to watch live.

Ouch. I laughed so hard my throat really hurts now.

I was sitting there thinking about being in choir in high school and thanking my lucky stars that I sang soprano, and not bass, because the basses get all the equivalents of the cello part in the Canon in D. Eight notes repeated 54 times? Yep, sounds just like a bass part in any one of hundreds of choral songs I know...

Those bass parts look absolutely fascinating compared to some alto lines I've encountered. :-)
