<Scree->[crashthump]<-ch> *beeeep!*

Yeah, in that order. Though perhaps it was some third steering around the first two that beeped. (Still, a bit late for a warning, but I didn't see; maybe there was a good reason.)

Grab phone & camera, go to window; cars came to rest in a curb lane, appear most-likely still driveable, occupands walking around without obvious signs of pain, one driver dragging detached bumper out of the middle of the intersection. Decide I don't need to call 911.

My guess is that one car tried to stop for a yellow light, but that's just a SWAG[1] based on nothing more than the fact that both cars are pointing the same (correct) direction now, and how very short the skid-screech was. No injuries & not blocking traffic? Not my problem.

Water pump that pushes hot water to the radiators in my house making "bad bearing" chirpsqueak? My problem.

Maybe there's a way to oil the bearing? Even if it's not designed to be oiled, you might be able to get some in there and make it last a bit longer.

Honking your horn at any point in process is Supposed to make it easier to sue or at least increase your take if you win ... per various ambulance chasers over the moons. Whether it really matters, especially after the impact, is unclear, but it Has been talked up in news, etc.

Draining water pipes to change / remove and rebuild water pump sounds not-fun. Open- or closed system? Makes a big difference, as closed- requires pressure-safe joints.

Hmmm... I always took SWAG to start with 'scientific'. :)

I would definitely see if there's a place to lube the water pump. Ours started making a squeek a few years ago that had us terrified we were going to have to choose bewteen heat and feeding our children, but a little oil solved it.
