And when he does veer off in that direction ... I get a very different 'vibe' when Ferguson does sexual-ambiguity humour than when Leno or O'Brien does, and he dips into that more often. When the others say things playing on the "I just said something that sounds like it means I'm gay" bit, I get the impression that they think we're supposed to find it funny because they just "insulted" themselves, or because they're so "daring" to be willing to even joke about that, or because we're supposed to be titillated because it's "shocking" -- I don't get the impression they're really doing queer communities any favours. But when Ferguson does it, well okay, sometimes there seems to be a self-deprecating angle (less strongly than when the Americans do it), but more often I get the impression that the humour is all in a) the simple sexual innuendo with the implied orientation not seeming significant, or b) the ambiguity / juxtaposition-with-heterosexuality of the kinds of comments he sometimes makes.
