Sorry I've been too busy to post much lately. Hoping to get a chance to write more soon. Meantime: a couple of observations.

When the cold, dry weather is making the skin on your hands crack, slicing habanero peppers is a very effective way of discovering the location of cracks you hadn't noticed yet. (Note that I said "effective", not "excellent".)

Something on or near my bed smells very strongly of brass. I'm not yet sure what.

Oh, and non-standard screw threads are annoying as all get out.

I'm with you on the oddball screws. The shade to my examining lamp is held on with a
long 4-36 screw. Such screws are quite hard to obtain. I can't even find a 4-36 die so
I can make one. I can get a 4-36 tap, however. Perhaps if I made a soft
iron nut, tapped it, carved chase grooves in it, and then hardened it (blowtorch and
oil, maybe)? Gaaaah. I can find short 4-36 screws for sale, but they're hard to get and
won't reach anyway. Maybe if I made a hollow sleeve, tapped one end for 4-40, the
other for 4-36, made up most of the distance with an ordinary 4-40 screw and the
sleeve, and cut the threaded bit off a short 4-36 screw? Gaaaah2.
