"I don't see real science as a threat to faith, in fact quite the opposite. I see ID as a threat to faith. When you point to the gaps in our knowledge and say 'God is there.' you run the very real risk of constantly shrinking the space where God is, and that's a very dangerous prospect." -- [livejournal.com profile] jason0x21, 2007-02-13 (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] selki for pointing it out)

"Intelligent Design" aka thinly disguised creationism.

Don't feel bad. I work in the world of TLAs (three letter acronyms). We're always getting confused. :)

And the ETLAs are even worse. OK< I'll be merciful: Extended Three-Letter Acronyms.

Veddy good, yes. As a brief poke at the "Brights", who definitely deserve it, I've heard them explain God in exactly those terms...thus deserving the title of "fundamentalist atheists".

They tend to do that because they're sick and tired of creationist apologetics running the tired old "god of the gaps" argument by them. That is a creationist argument, not anything the atheists came up with. When atheists start acting analogously to genuine fundamentalists of any stripe, then you may consider that we deserve the title "fundamentalists." However, since that analogy is false and wrong, it should be dropped.

Hmmm, lessee. Insistence upon being correct, insistence that theirs is the only way, denigration of competing beliefs, frequent reference to empirical texts that only they hold sacred, prediction of dire circumstances if their way is not universally adopted, general lack of a sense of humor...ah, you're so right! Nothing fundamentalist there. Don't know how I might've been misled. Carry on.
