Oh my.

9 Chickweed Lane comic for 2007-03-11, one of the "Hallmarks of Felinity" strips [the link will stop working in about 29 days, alas, though presumably the strip will eventually show up over here]

Here's the thing: for a while after my housemate moved in, Perrine acted like she was afraid of him. (Except, as I suspected all along, when he was in the kitchen and she was hungry and I wasn't around. So I'm interpreting that as her putting on an act for my benefit.) But in the past couple of weeks, I've noticed that when we're all in the kitchen and he leaves, Perrine moves to track him with that cat stalking prey body language.

I've told her he's too big to hunt. But I don't think those are words she understands. (She knows "mouse", "bird", «viens ici», "please don't claw that", and "that's not for cats", and I think "kitchen". I'm not sure whether she understands "mine" and "hot", or just catches my tone of voice.) I'm sure there's even less chance of her understanding that it would be impolite to hunt him.

Fortunately, Perrine is more of a "swat at ankles" type, rather than being likely to nip.

I am convinced sometimes that Perrine needs a feline enemy to engage in a love/hate relationship besides you. Her relationship with Mel (under duress at that) speaks volumes.

And try baring your teeth and biting the end off of "mine". Works for me.

Thanks for the pointer. I'm a complete sucker for drawings with a lively line that go outside the panel borders.

Lucky you: [livejournal.com profile] julian_tiger is definitely the nipping sort, and doesn't limit himself to ankles. (What can I say? He's our cat, and we are besotted.)

And you scoffed when I told you you needed a cat.
