Actually, I can relate.

Once, I was kicked out and hard from suspending my disbelief reading a cyberpunk book by a presence of a wrong chain restaurant in a town I was well familiar with. Pre-and/or-post-apocalyptic ecoterrorism - fine. IHOP in a town that doesn't have'em - wrong, wrong, wrong!

Yup, same here. Kid in 1954 with *Spiderman* comics under the bed. Note, I have no problem with radioactive spider bite, etc., but the comics existing 9 years too early - I threw the book across the room.
