She's named for the protagonist of a French novel by Hector Malot. (anniemal named her -- I'd been searching for the right name and occasionally trying them out, and anniemal left me a note suggesting "Perrine". The cat reacted favorably and I liked the name, so it stuck. Consequently, I find myself speaking to her in French...)
