The first step is to bring my XML entry-only archive, via http://www.livejournal.com/export.bml , up to date, break the individual entries into separate files with 'csplit' and 'sed', and post them backdated to the other two journals.
The second step is to make a local archive including comments (and, ideally, images); I'm looking at a couple of the tools folks have been mentioning in various discussions but haven't settled on one yet. I was hoping to do it under Linux, and am trying to determine just how difficult a roll-my-own solution would be (wondering, for example, whether the right options to 'wget' could do the job without trying to pull down the entirety of LJ, or a script that used 'lynx --dump'), but I might just give in and install one of the Windows tools and hope my sole currently-working Windows machine is up to the task.
I'm not going to try to copy the comments over to the backdated mirrors (however annoying it would be to lose the public copies if the shit hits the fan), but I do want to tack on a cross-links between the three copies of each entry, if I can do so automagically and cleanly.
I do need to get more disk for my file server. /home and /shared have been sitting at 98%-100% full for months (every so often I find more stuff to gzip and squeeze out a little more space). Disk space may be 'cheap', but I need to get a chance to lay hands on some and install it.
I'm also trying to work out a way to keep edits to entries in sync, instead of having to go fix typos in three different places when I goof. Right now I'm mirroring new entries with a rather blunt instrument -- a shell script that runs 'clive' three times to post the same input file to the three sites. (So if I want to add a non-LJ-codebase site to the mix in the future, I'll need to hack something more robust.)
When I settle on an archive-with-comments tool to use (or write one), I'll post another comment here about it.
