there's evidence that our pre-human ancestors from several million years ago ate honey from active hives, and some of our ape cousins do so today.

thing is, back then our ancestors could smell it. "tasty" had nothing to do with it - when you are hungry *most* of the time you won't let a little thing like a stinging insect stop you.
