There are things I don't like as much about the nearest (more important detail: within walking distance) grocery as I do about more distant stores from other chains, but only one aspect that really puzzles me.

How can a grocery store not carry any chili peppers in the produce section? I could understand (however much I'd grumble) stocking only a single type, such as jalapeños, but no hot peppers at all? Once, and I figure they're just out of stock; twice and I think I'm unlucky; time after time seeing nothing more closely related than green sweet bell peppers, and it finally sinks in that the grocery store within walking distance simply does not meet my Capsicum needs. (I didn't notice so much when I was able to dash off to other stores in my own car, and thus only hit this particular store occasionally.) Can there really be so few local residents who eat chili peppers and rely on that store?

No peppers at all is just weird.

Have you tried asking the manager about it? It does seem odd. As unlikely as it sounds, maybe you're catching the store between shipments? I did once find a store without limes in the produce section, and when I asked, they were about to put more out... I just caught them at an odd time.

It's not that weird, just um, unmodern. 15 years ago no one carried chili peppers in the produce section. However, if you have chili needs, I'm sure I can help you - wer're growing korean chilis in the backyard, and I'd be ahppy to get you some. I'm not sure how they'd fare by mail, but I'msure we can work something out.

If you get down to Rockville with any regularity, I could just give them to you

Hmm...Rockville you say. I could perhaps get them from Rockville (I live near Wootton HS) over to 3LF practice. And there either directly to Glenn or to another intermediary.

If it wouldn't involve transshipping them across the border, I have about 45 dried Thai demon peppers you could have. I take them home with me from the Vietnamese restaurant, since they come as part of the fixin's (that's an "omitted letter" apostrophe, not a possessive) with the pho I nearly always get. Thing is, I don't use them very often because if I'm going to add pepper derivatives to my food, I prefer to use President's Choice Memories of Thailand chili-garlic sauce, sambal oelek, or chili flakes. So they kind of add up.

Incidentally, I have no idea how you're supposed to use a small red pepper in the context of a bowl of pho. I don't imagine you know, either, but I felt like mentioning it in case someone else does.

You should definitely ask the produce manager. If enough people ask they might start carrying them.
