I call it, "See all the knobs and settings you can use..." factor. Usually due to the developer(s) not having a clear grasp of the workflow the client uses/needs. There are a lot of ready neat open source tools out there that have powerful underpinnings, but don't provide a useful UI. (It's not just Open Source, think of all the seminars, books, training, etc. revolves around teaching sound engineers how to effectively use ProTools...)
