Wow. So much static that Perrine sometimes zaps me with her paw when she walks across me (I hear it more than I feel it); usually I accidentally zap her on the nose or ear, or just notice the crackling sounds when I pet her. Is the air that much drier than other Decembers? It's raining out (and my house doesn't maintain all that great a distinction between outside-air and inside-air, as illustrated by how much of my housedust is black auto exhaust and tire crud instead of white/grey skin flakes, and how I can tell when somebody is smoking on the sidewalk in front).

It's been nutty dry all of a sudden. I had to get my hair cut today because the ends were positively straw-like. Ick!!

Humidifiers are your friend. :)

sometimes when i pet my kitties at night in the winter, i see static flashes on the fur as i zap them with my petting of electric loving.

I just said to Nero the other night when he was crackling with static electricity, "You're just a big ball of static electricity! You're like my very own pet Van De Graaf generator!" Which tells you two things -- the static is bad even here in the microclimate, surrounded on three sides by Great Lakes, and that I'm an even bigger nerd than many of you might have suspected.

We switched to hardwood floors, and that pretty much solved the problem. Running humidifiers in winter certainly doesn't hurt either.
