I wound up adding the lentils plus a little cracked wheat (because it was such a small quantity of lentils) to what was left of my last onion, fried with a mix of spices (with some overlap with the ingredients of curry powder), then putting that inside the scooped-out squash, wrapping the halves in foil, baking the squash that way. Turns out I should've just left out the cracked wheat, but oh well.
The squash cooked very unevenly, in a way I've never had one do before, so both ends were very soft, bordering on overdone, while most of the neck was still hard and undercooked. Tasty enough, but the mouth feel was odd (and the undercooked bits lacked some of the expected sweetness). I'm not sure why that happened.
