"A time is marked not so much by ideas that are argued about as by ideas that are taken for granted. The character of an era hangs upon what needs no defense." -- Jonathan Lethem, "The ecstasy of influence: A plagiarism", Harper's Magazine, February 2007

Taken from this angle, what exactly is postmodernism, except modernism without the anxiety? Or, postmodernism is normal art with pretentiousness added on.

I liked the article, but Lethem doesn't address the matter of selling large numbers of copies (not necessarily accurate) of a work without compensating the artist.
